Reiki in therapeutics

I came to Reiki as a means of deepening my sensitivity to the energy which moves naturally through the human body.  It has always been my fundamental desire to accompany my clients toward health and balance.  Whereas Thai Yoga Therapeutic Massage and Yoga Therapeutcs offer incredible possibilities for aligning the body biomechanically and fascially (via the fascia around the muscles), Reiki enables the body to respond on a more energetic level.
How can I best describe the power of Reiki?  While my touch is soft and gentle, positioning my hands on various predetermined places on the body, the effect is huge.  Reiki consists of allowing myself to become a conduit for a much higher level of healing light or vibration.  I merely act as a funnel or ‘reed’ so to speak for the Universal Healing Energy that exists all around us.  My biggest task is to step out of the way so that this powerful healing energy can merge with a clients own healing potential so that the two can collaborate to co-create balance and health in the body.  Given this, I will apply REIKI in a variety of ways based on the needs and desires of the client.  I will often interweave REIKI with a Thai Yoga Therapeutic Massage session.  I can also apply REIKI on its own, if my client has a particular issue that would be resolved more effectively with a Reiki session alone.  REIKI is versatile and non invasive, so I can adapt it as I go.
This form of healing was rediscovered and brought to the forefront by Dr. Mikao Usui (1865-1926) in the early 20’s. It was only brought to the U.S. and Europe in the 1980’s and has grown in popularity exponentially ever since. Dr. Mikao Usui was a Japanese Catholic Monk who searched and studied for many years to rediscover ancient ways of working with the Universal Energy that exists all around us.  ‘REI’ means Universal Vital Energy, ‘KI’ means the energy that lives within each living being.

REIKI:

 - does not replace medical or psychological treatment but does support it
- reinforces the immunity system
- increases physiological resistance to certain stressors
revitalizes the body and soul
- helps to eliminate toxins

- reinforces and accelerates the natural healing process

- adapts itself to the needs of the receiver

To be more precise, REIKI enables a balancing of the body, the mind and the spirit.
